Frontier FAQs
What does an Orchard help frontier communities do?
Orchard helps remote, disconnected, and infrastructure-limited communities make useful products, replacement parts, tools, fixtures, prototypes, and repairs locally. It is designed for places where normal supply chains are slow, expensive, unreliable, or unavailable.
Does an Orchard need a full workshop or specialized operator?
No. Orchard is a compact production platform that brings modular manufacturing capability into a small footprint. Your staff can operate it after installation and 1 hour of training, with workflows designed to keep you in production 24/7.
What materials can the Orchard use?
Orchard can use new filament and compatible plastics. With the right modules, local plastic waste streams can become useful production material for making parts and products on site.
Can Orchards make replacement parts?
Yes. Orchards can make many useful replacement parts, fixtures, brackets, tools, housings, prototypes, and repair components. It can also make many of its own replacement parts, helping teams stay operational in remote settings.
If my community can’t afford an Orchard, are there sponsors?
Yes. Some deployments may qualify for sponsorship through corporate partners, nonprofits, government programs, or community development initiatives. Contact us to discuss your community’s needs and possible funding paths.
What is included?
Every Orchard deployment includes hardware, software, installation, training, and ongoing support. Pre-deployment planning with Itemfarm can also include material selection, parts libraries, operator workflows, and local use-case development.
